Brief: “The Future” is here now, it has arrived. Our approach was to take it seriously, taking the viewer to real places, in found moments - though with interesting environments and compositions.
1,2) Newsroom where our spot was anchored, literally. We wanted to play this as network level news and set it up very believably, but so many modern newscasts use blue screen and we found that to be so uninteresting. This element of the commercial was shot on 24P digital video by Bob Yeoman to give it a more authentic look.
3) Yes, that IS Mark Hamill, a real life expert on
the future, after all he has been there. Here he is, a guest on our “forum” format set, ala PBS or straight journalism, with the host and two other experts on the future.
4) We had to have the requisite scientific proof
that the future had arrived. This was a forced perspective set - resembling a scientific research facility hallway - where top secret experiments were going on.
5) Here we are visiting the UFO landing area,
where, once the future was announced, people gathered expecting extraterrestrials to be arriving, since, they are typically apart of the future. Of course, none arrived and the crowd lingered disappointedly.
Below) The concept drawing for the newsroom set, which provided different, but convincing, backgrounds for our national news anchor. Our objective was to provide depth with texture, and just enough darkness to allow our attention to be focused on the anchorman.
