Brief: Metaphor for the internet, with it’s endless information, and abundant market... how to find just what your looking for without wasting your time, no matter how obscure. I really wanted my metaphor to contain homage to all the aspects of the internet, from the macabre, to the pornographic, to the mundane and repetitive, to the valuable. No matter what, I wanted it to be graphic. Shot by Bill Pope (The Matrix Trilogy), it was easy to make the dark corners come to life with these undertones, and we had fun with it for sure.
(1,5) Wide shots show the graphic, bland aisles in the cathode ray flicker of fluorescents.
(2-4) Details were the most fun, from the “Mr. Talky, Funky Monkey” toy - a radio controlled, symbol clapping simian toy of my own design and the object of our heroine’s search - to the bizarre bunny children, to the beautiful dolls, perfectly packaged. All the toys and ‘goods’ you see here (we had 3 aisles and 1 back wall full of stuff), we had to beg, rent, buy and borrow - then return (or donate). Overall, a very expensive proposition, but executed in a very thrifty manner - it all cost only about... I’ll tell you when we meet.
