Mazda Route 626
Charlie Watson, director

Brief:    Again, a fantasy world built, as if by a child, using only wooden building blocks.  Here we have a couple of lovers travelling along Route 66, and stopping for an ice cream.  The brief was to derive Route 66 landmarks into the block world motif.

(1)  The road house miniature element on the  route set.  The life size element (4), was built on location and was designed to  fit onto the front of the miniature.

(2) Ant Farm’s Cadillac Ranch, was an inspiration for this interactive sculpture - as the car drives by, the cadillac row waves like dominoes.

(3,4)  The miniature set along with the insert live action set built on location.  Shot with the car and the actors, it was easier to integrate the two pieces.

The world being a Block World was fun to create,
while challenging to carry through the block, or segmented theme to a full scale element.

(5,6)  Details of the live action full scale interactive element.  The countertop props (5), and the petrol pump located near the car (6).  The former were photographs applied to blocks, while the latter were painted “trompe l’oeil” from photographs (the abstract nature of the images, lent themselves toward an  easier read).
