John Hollis, director

Brief: Wagner’s Ring Cycle, Die Walkure, Act III, Scene I, played theatrically, but seriously, with dramatic set pieces and lighting.  In this scene, a football player arrives on stage via the orchestra pit, and attempts to receive a pass, but Brunhilde proves too intimidible and disrupts the play, catching the pass herself.

(1,2) The set installed at the Los Angeles Theater, with sculpted landscape and dramatic painted sky drop.  We had only a single day to build and install, plus a day to pre-light and do finishing touches... and of course, very little money.

(3,4)  The maquette I built to aid in pre-visualization and construction.  Scale models are always great for the entire production team to get their heads around scale and shape.

(5)  Two references I pulled and used for initial meetings with John and the agency, to convey the dramatic landscape forms.  These were helpful early on for lighting discussions, but of course, not as helpful as the maquette became.
