Nissan
Zack Snyder, director

Brief:  Man is fishing quietly on a beautiful sunny  beach from the back of his Nissan pick-up, when all fo a sudden, the line gets taken out and it is clear he has a big one!  He jumps out of the bed and leaps into the cab, pushing the stick in to four wheel drive, then dropping the hammer, the truck lunges forward, fighting the line as the pole arcs finitely toward the ocean... As the truck gets traction. It begins to drag the offending catch up onto shore, and what do we see, but a submarine, torn from the depths to be laid dry in the sun!  WHAT POWER!  See storyboard below.

(1,2)    The finished Sub, modeled after a nuclear
sub from either the Russian or American Navy (both are similar - but ours was closer to an American version)

(3)  At the beach we needed to set a huge anchor at sea and use a tractor on shore, from an acute angle, to drag the truck back toward the sea, and to resist it when trying to ‘drag the sub’ from the ocean.

(4,5)    Submarine during construction (good relationship  for scale).  And during the shoot we used a foreshortened version of the submarine so we could save money and space on stage.  As you can see from the first image (1) it works quite well.
